Probiotic Trials in Autistic Children

Professor Glen Gibson of  the University of Reading is hoping to start work on trials of a probiotic supplement with autistic children.  Earlier work done by the professor and his team highlighted that autistic children appeared to have unusually high levels of Clostidia bacteria in their gut, compared with their non-autistic siblings, along with varying degrees of gastrointestinal disturbance.

The probiotic bacteria to be used is Lactobacillus plantarum (299v ) which in preliminary trials has had some very positive effects on improving gut disorders in autistic children.
