Altered Gut Microbiota & Mycobiota in Autism

Further evidence of an altered gut microbiota (bacteria) and mycobiota (fungi) associated with ASD has been revealed in this latest study (Strati et al, 2017).

Key species were significantly reduced whilst others were elevated with constipated autistic individuals having high levels of Escherichia/Shigella and Clostridium species. The yeast Candida  was also elevated in ASD compared to neurotypical subjects.
