INDIVIDUAL DIETARY ADVICE

You know your child better than anyone and so most of the relevant information needed for assessment can be gathered from the completion of a simple questionnaire which includes a seven day food-frequency chart.  Copies of the questionnaire are available on request. Data from the questionnaire is then analysed and targeted personal dietary advice is outlined, covering the following key areas:

Nutritional Imbalances 

Estimated intakes of key nutrients known to be important for optimal brain and body function are compared with recommended levels to identify any imbalances.

  • monounsaturated fats
  • essential omega 3 fat  ( ALA )
  • essential omega 6 fat ( LA )

Personal dietary recommendations are then outlined in detail to address any imbalances, including recipes and advice on nutritional supplements where necessary.

Gut Health & Food Intolerance 

Gastrointestinal health and signs of food intolerance are assessed and appropriate advice given.

Dietary factors affecting gut function include:

  • vitamin A
  • fibre
  • prebiotics
  • probiotics

Dietary factors that can be problematic in cases of food intolerance include:

  • gluten
  • casein
  • beta-casein A1
  • food additives 

Disordered Eating Behaviour

Problems with selective eating, food jags and food 'addiction' are atckled with a variety of practical strategies.

Nutrition Policy for Carers of Individuals with ASD 

This useful document is designed to provide carers with the very latest research on diet and autism along with practical advice on dealing with food intolerances, restrictive diets and faddy eating.  The policy helps carers to provide excellent nutritional care to their clients and provides a reference tool for when dealing with special dietary modifications.  Ongoing support and guidance to help implement the policy is available via the on-line and telephone Q&A service.

The policy has been available since June 2007 and policy holders will continue to get updates until June 2009 when the policy will be reviewed.  The current price is £50 per copy.
